The New South Wales Premier at the very least must give her government space to govern and “step aside” until ICAC hands down its findings, according to Sky News host Chris Smith.

“While there’s still no evidence of corruption, and the premier is being buoyed by a groundswell of support, the ball is now in the court of her Liberal colleagues,” Mr Smith said.

Disgraced former MP Daryl Maguire appeared before the inquiry for his second day of evidence on Thursday where numerous phone taps revealed his connections to property developers.

Counsel assisting the inquiry probed Mr Maguire throughout the day in an attempt to ascertain the extent Premier Gladys Berejiklian knew of his dodgy dealings.

Mr Smith said Liberal Party might “end the haemorrhaging” and call for her to stand aside while the investigation continues.

“Or is Gladys Berijiklian’s hold on power terminal?” he said.

“At the very least the Premier needs to give her Government space to govern, and the best course would be to step aside until ICAC hands down its findings.”
